Everything you need to know about using Cycle to Work with Woosh.
Do I have to ride to work every day to qualify?
No — you don't need to commute by bike every day. The scheme is intended to encourage cycling, but there's no monitoring of how you actually use the bike. Many people use their Cycle to Work bike for leisure and fitness rides as well as commuting.
Is there a spending limit on the scheme?
The old £1,000 cap was removed in 2019. Most providers now have no upper spending limit — or a much higher limit — making the scheme excellent for electric bikes. Some employers may set their own limits, so check with your HR department. Green Commute Initiative and Bike2Work both have no upper limit.
My employer doesn't have a scheme — can they still sign up?
Yes — many providers can set up a new employer scheme very quickly, sometimes within 24 hours. Green Commute Initiative in particular are known for their fast turnaround. Your employer saves National Insurance contributions too, so it's often an easy sell to HR. Give us a call and we can advise.
Can I use a voucher for a conversion kit as well?
Cycle to Work schemes are intended for complete bikes and cycling accessories. Conversion kits are generally not eligible as they are not complete bikes. If you are interested in a kit, please call us and we will advise on the best options.
How do I use my voucher with Woosh?
Please call us first on 01702 684444. We'll confirm your provider, help you choose the right bike, and reserve it while you wait for your voucher. Once you have it, send or bring the voucher to us and we'll process everything and arrange delivery. Free delivery is included on all bikes.
Will the salary sacrifice affect my pension contributions?
Potentially, yes — because salary sacrifice reduces your gross pay, it may affect pension contributions that are calculated as a percentage of salary. It can also affect certain state benefits. We'd recommend checking with your pension provider or HR department before applying.
What happens if I leave my job during the repayment period?
This varies by scheme and employer. Typically, the remaining balance is deducted from your final payslip. Check with your HR department or scheme provider for the exact terms before applying — it's worth understanding this before you commit.
I'm self-employed — can I use the scheme?
Standard Cycle to Work schemes are only available to PAYE employees. However, if you operate through a limited company, you may be able to set up a scheme through your company. Green Commute Initiative offer options for self-employed directors. Please call us to discuss.
