What makes the 85TS special?

Torque Sensing in a Hub Kit — Genuinely Rare

You have the cadence sensor plus a torque sensor built right inside the heb motor, no fitting necessary. Almost all hub kits use a simple cadence sensor — they detect that you're pedalling and give a fixed level of power. The 85TS is different: it measures exactly how hard you're pushing and delivers power proportional to your effort. The result is a ride feel that is smooth, natural, and far more intuitive than a standard hub kit — much closer to a torque-sensing crank drive like the TSDZ8, but without touching your bottom bracket.

Safe for Carbon Frames and Pressfit Bottom Brackets

Most crank drive kits — even the excellent TSDZ8 — require removing and modifying your bottom bracket. On a carbon frame or a bike with a pressfit BB, this can be risky. The 85TS installs entirely at the rear wheel and display; your bottom bracket, headset, and frame are never touched. This makes it the only sensible torque-sensing option for riders with premium carbon bikes.

Remarkably Lightweight — Under 4.5kg Added

The entire kit — motor wheel, battery, and display — adds less than 4.5kg to your bike. The individual components are incredibly light: the motorwheel is just 2.1kg, the display and cable just 150g. The Samsung 21700 bag battery is compact and unobtrusive. For riders who care about keeping their bike light, this is the right kit.

Only Three Components to Install

The 85TS is designed for elegant simplicity. You install the motorwheel, mount the battery, and fit the display — that's it. Because the torque sensor, pedal assist sensor, and speedometer are all integrated inside the cassette freehub body, there's no additional sensor to fit at the bottom bracket or chainstay. It's the fastest, cleanest hub kit install we've ever seen.

For comparison, most crank drive kits add 6–8kg to a bike. The 85TS adds less than any kit in our range.

Installation overview

Remove your existing rear wheel

Release the quick-release or undo the axle nuts and remove your rear wheel. Shift to the smallest sprocket first to make removal easier.

Install the 85TS motor wheel

Fit the motor wheel exactly as you would a normal rear wheel. All the sensors — torque, cadence, speed — are already integrated inside the cassette freehub. Nothing to fit at the bottom bracket, nothing to fit on the chainstay. Route the cable up toward the battery.

Mount the battery

The compact Samsung bag battery can be mounted to a frame tube or carried in a suitable bag. Connect the battery connector to the motor cable — it's waterproof and keyed so it can only connect one way.

Fit the colour LCD display

Mount the display on your handlebars. Connect the display cable. That's it — the entire installation is complete. There are no brake sensors to worry about in the standard kit. Total installation time is typically under 1 hour.

Frequently asked questions

How is the 85TS different from the standard geared hub kit?

The key difference is the torque sensor. Standard hub kits use a cadence sensor — they detect that you're pedalling and give a fixed level of power. The 85TS measures how hard you're pushing and gives proportional power, just like our crank drive kits. The ride feels much more natural and intuitive. It also has a more advanced integrated sensor design, is lighter, and is safe for carbon frames.

Is it really safe for my carbon frame?

Yes — the 85TS installs entirely at the rear wheel and handlebars. Your bottom bracket, pressfit housing, and frame are completely untouched throughout the installation. This is the defining advantage over crank drive kits for riders with carbon or high-end alloy bikes.

Will it work on my bike?

The 85TS is designed for standard rear dropouts. Please email us at kits@wooshbikes.co.uk with a photo of your bike and your wheel size before ordering — we'll confirm compatibility. It is not suitable for bikes with internal hub gears (Nexus, Alfine, etc.).

How does it compare to the TSDZ8 crank drive?

Both have excellent torque sensing and feel natural to ride. The TSDZ8 is more powerful and better on very steep hills because it drives through your gears. The 85TS is lighter, easier to install, safe for carbon frames, and doesn't touch your bottom bracket at all. For riders on moderate terrain or with premium frames, the 85TS is often the better choice.
