More Power than the TSDZ2B — with the Same Natural Feel
The TSDZ8 is a fully upgraded motor built on the TSDZ2 platform — but substantially more powerful. Power-wise it is comparable to a Bafang BBS02B, but with a torque sensor. That means you get the raw climbing ability of a high-performance motor combined with the smooth, natural riding feel that torque sensing delivers. It's the best of both worlds.

Compact — Similar Size to the BBS01B
Despite being more powerful than the TSDZ2B, the TSDZ8 is notably more compact — similar in weight and dimensions to the Bafang BBS01B. It fits neatly on more frames and looks tidier once installed. The 68mm and 73mm bottom bracket widths are both supported, just like the Bafang.

No Anti-Torque Hanger Needed
Unlike the TSDZ2B, the TSDZ8 does not require an anti-torque hanger. This simplifies installation considerably — especially on frames where mounting an anti-torque bracket was awkward — and gives a cleaner, more professional-looking result.

Installation overview

Remove your bottom bracket and front derailleur
You'll need a crank puller and a bottom bracket removal tool. The TSDZ8 fits 68mm and 73mm bottom bracket shells — the same as the Bafang BBS range.

Fit the motor into the bottom bracket shell
Unlike the TSDZ2B, no anti-torque hanger is required. The motor seats cleanly into the BB shell and fastens securely — a much simpler step than the previous Tongsheng motor.

Install the battery on your downtube
Please email us a photo of your downtube before ordering so we can confirm the right battery option for your frame. Both HL and DP battery shapes are available.

Connect the waterproof cables
Simple plug-and-play wiring throughout. Route cables neatly along the frame. If you have hydraulic brakes, hydraulic brake sensors will be needed — ask us and we'll advise.

Fit the LCD display and optionally the throttle
Mount the display on your handlebars. Decide whether to fit the throttle — it gives extra flexibility but you can leave it in the box for a tidier cockpit if you prefer riding on torque assist alone.

Test and go
Check all connections, test the assist levels and brakes, then enjoy the ride. Installation takes around 2 hours for a competent fitter. Our team is available throughout to guide you if needed.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the TSDZ8 your best-selling kit?
Because it hits the sweet spot between power, feel and size. It's more powerful than the TSDZ2B but similarly compact to the BBS01B — and it has the natural torque-sensing ride feel that riders consistently prefer once they've tried it. Two years in a row it's been our top seller.
How is it different from the TSDZ2B?
Both use torque sensing and feel very similar to ride. The TSDZ8 is significantly more powerful, more compact, and doesn't need an anti-torque hanger — so it's easier to install and fits more frames. The TSDZ2B is being phased out; the TSDZ8 is its replacement and then some.
How is it different from the BBS01B?
They're similar in size and weight, but the sensor types are quite different. The BBS01B uses a cadence sensor — it detects that you're pedalling and gives a fixed level of power. The TSDZ8 uses a torque sensor — it measures how hard you're pushing and gives proportional power, which feels far more natural. The TSDZ8 is also considerably more powerful.
Do I have to use the throttle?
No — the throttle is included in the kit but completely optional. Many riders prefer to leave it in the box for a cleaner cockpit, and the motor works perfectly on torque-assisted pedalling alone. If you'd like the option of a throttle for specific situations (like pushing up a particularly steep section), it's there when you want it.
Will it fit my bike?
The TSDZ8 fits standard 68mm and 73mm BSA bottom bracket shells. Before ordering, please email kits@wooshbikes.co.uk with a couple of photos of your bike or the model name. We'll confirm compatibility before you buy.
Can I fit it myself?
Yes, if you're reasonably handy with bikes. You'll need a crank puller and a bottom bracket tool. The installation is actually simpler than the TSDZ2B since there's no anti-torque hanger to fit. Our team supports you throughout the installation by email — from the moment you order to the moment you're riding.
What is your warranty and returns policy?
Full warranty is included. If we cannot fix a kit under warranty, we'll offer a refund based on the age, condition, and mileage of the kit. Faults caused by incorrect installation or misuse are not covered. See our Sales Conditions for full details.
